The Kano State Government has threatened to sack any principal of secondary schools who breaches COVID-19 protocols as schools reopen today, August 10, for the 2020 West African Senior Scholes Certificate Examinations, WASSCE.

The state Commissioner of Education, Sanusi Kiru, gave the warning Monday morning, while speaking with the BBC Hausa Service monitored by our correspondent.

According to him, the state government has made adequate arrangements for the examinations, adding that Personal Protective Equipment, PPEs, had been distributed to all the 538 schools slated for the exercise across the state.

He, therefore, called on the students to strictly follow the COVID-19 protocols in order to finish the exercise safely.

“We have made adequate arrangement ahead of the WASSCE. We have provided enough PPEs in order to protect all that is involved in the examination exercise.

“To this end, let me warn that any school principal who violate the COVID-19 protocols or cause any disruption to these arrangements, so we will not hesitate to remove him and take home or her back to class as a teacher,” Mr Kiru warned.

He disclosed that out of the 538 schools that would write the WASSCE, 199 are government schools, while 339 are private establishments as reported by Daily Nigerian.

The commissioner disclosed that the total of 27,464 students would sit for the examination, adding that the government was ensuring that revisions for previous lessons were made in order to freshen up the students ahead of the examination.

Mr Kiru, therefore, urged the students to read and pray hard in order to pass the examination and make Kano and northern Nigeria proud.
