Kano to host first international Dambe championship

Kano State has been granted to host the first maiden edition of international Dambe championship organised by Dambe Warriors Promoters in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports in May this year.

Disclosing this to The Triumph Sports Desk, Coordinators Mr. Chidi Anyina and Alhaji Aminu Bature said the Championship would attract two fighters from Saudi Arabia and France to fight with their Nigerian counterparts.

Mr. Anyina said the history of traditional Dambe sports originated from Hausa community of Northern Nigeria, pointing out that the state has become the center of promoting the game to global trend through internet and live events.

He said since February, the Dambe Warriors have embarked in promoting the sport which attracted about 27 million viewers on You Tube, including United State of America, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico and United Kingdom.

On his part, Alhaji Bature commended the state government for its commitment to sports development, particularly traditional Dambe towards creating job opportunities to the teeming youths in Northern Nigeria, saying the event was contributing to the fight against drug abuse among youths in the nation.
