Crisis has rocked the Kano State chapter of the People’s Redemption Party, PRP, days after Salihu Sagir Takai, who defected to the party from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP clinched the party’s governorship ticket.

The crisis started when a faction, led by one Mukhtar Zango, who claimed to be strict follower of late Mallam Aminu Kano, accused some forces of trying to hijack the party they nurtured for 27 years.

Speaking to newsmen in Kano on Sunday, Daily Nigerian reported Mr Zango accusing one Aisha Dan-Kani, a founder of Kano Leads, a Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, of using money to take over the leadership of the party.

According to him, when the call for revival of PRP began, they were at the forefront to accept the idea and began their moves to actualise the dream as the disciples of late Aminu Kano.

He, however, lamented that the Mrs Dan-Kani faction had invaded the party and trying to snatch it by hook or crook.

Mr Zango revealed that upon joining the party, Mrs Dan-Kani had however begun moves to impose her own executives, without regard to the already existing leadership structure led by its National Chairman, Abdulkadir Musa.

He alleged that she had appointed one Sammani Sharif as the state PRP chairman, who doubled as its governorship candidate, pending when a wealthy aspirant emerges.

The aggrieved factional leader also accused the splinter group of dismantling their existing party structure across the state.

He alleged that all the 44 Local Government party chairmen were forcefully stripped of their leadership on the premise that they wanted to inject fresh blood and literate people who could steer the party to success in 2019.

He stressed that the national body of the party had directed that the existing executive committee be maintained until the state convention, but the Mrs Dan-Kani faction was trying to break the order.

“What is happening in Kano chapter of PRP is worrisome. A faction has just emerged, led by one Aisha Dan-Kani, who is spending money to buy leadership.

“She has closed her ears to the directives of the National body of the party that status quo be maintained until the state convention. But, she has gone ahead of dismantling our structure across all the 44 local government areas of the state.

“They said our party executives are illiterate and poor who don’t have the resources to move the party. They need to know that justice is our resources and we shall prevail by God’s grace,” he said.

Mr Zango also revealed that his faction had not endorsed Mr Takai as the party’s flag bearer in the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state, adding that they were not consulted when the decision was made.

He, however, stated that they have their prepared candidate which they would announce in due course, boasting that they would throw their weight behind him until he emerges victorious.

He also revealed that plans had been perfected to challenge the leadership of Mrs Dan-Kani in a court of law, stressing that they would succeed as they had substantial shreds of evidence to win the case.

He lamented that Mrs Dan-Kani had deviated from the constitution and manifesto of PRP by using money to influence decisions, alleging that they had brought some changes in the party which they would not accept.

However, when contacted, Mr Sammani said he is not aware of the faction.

He added that the national body of the party had already constituted the leadership structure through which he emerged as the chairman.

He said he even does not know who Mr Zango is.
