Members of the Kano State All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus I the National Assembly on Thursday evaded questions pertaining the viral videos that showed the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, allegedly collecting bribe.
The Kano APC lawmakers, numbering seven, had gathered at the National Assembly to address the press on their resolve to pass a vote of confidence on the governor.
However, after reading their prepared text in which they spoke glowingly about the governor’s performance since his assumption of office in 2015, journalists began to ask questions
Daily Trust reported Senator Kabiru Gaya, who is the co-chairman of the caucus, read the prepared text of the press conference on behalf of the other members.
A question regarding to the bribery videos was asked. However, the lawmakers evaded the question, citing a court case on the matter.
First to respond to the question was Chief Whip Ado Doguwa, who also a co-chair of the caucus. He said: “We can’t speak on that. The matter is in court, so it will be subjudicial to speak about it.”
Also, Senator Jibrin Barau said: “You know this matter is in court. But we’re confident that the governor will win at the court In Sha Allah.”
The Kano APC federal lawmakers also accused the opposition of campaign of blackmailing Ganduje and engaging in subterfuge to discredit the governor.
”We want to say that we stand by our governor and the president. Our pledge to deliver five million votes for the president stands.”
”What remains in the PDP in Kano State is the Kwankwasiyya, which is an empty shell. What we had in the PDP before now were the Shekaraus, the Lados and the rest. But they’re all with us now,” Doguwa said.
Responding to a question on whether the opposition was a challenge to the APC in Kano, Sen Barau said: “opposition isn’t a challenge to us, because Kano is 100 percent APC. I want to assure you that we’ll surpass that five million votes pledge for the president.
Although there are two senators and 14 House of Representatives members in the caucus, it was observed that only the two senators and five reps attended the press conference, while nine reps were not present.
