A popular broadcast journalist, Yakubu Musa-Fagge, has written a petition to the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Muhammad Wakili, over an alleged threat to his life by some top aides of the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

In the petition signed on Wednesday by Mr Musa-Fagge’s lawyer, Abba Hikima, alleged that some aides to the state governor had held a special meeting in which they resolved to “deal roughly” with him and other youth activists whose professional activities are perceived to be a threat to Mr Ganduje’s second term bid.

In the petition, obtained by DAILY NIGERIAN, Mr Musa-Fagge received the anonymous call on Tuesday, March 19, at about 7pm, few days to date of the rescheduled supplementary elections in the state.

The petition, therefore, sought the intervention of the police in investigating what “deal roughly” actually entailed.

The petition read: “We write as counsels to Yakubu Musa Fagge, a renowned journalist resident in Kano (hereinafter) referred to as our client and we have his express instruction to this letter.

“On Tuesday, 19th of March 2019, at about 1900hr, our client received an anonymous phone call in which he was fed with the intelligence report that certain top aides to governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje have in critical special service meeting resolved to “deal roughly” with our client alongside other youth activists whose professional and social activities are perceived to constitute a threat to the governor Ganduje’s second term ambition.

“Against this background, and the conviction that the judicial remedy as against self-help is ever available even for the government to redress the situation, we deemed it fit to inform this esteemed office in order to investigate what “deal roughly” actually entails.

“We strongly feel our client’s life and liberty is in danger,” said the petition.
