An Upper Sharia Court sitting at Goron Dutse, Kano, on Tuesday struck out a case filed by one Dalhatu Shehu, seeking the appearance of the Editor-in-Chief of DAILY NIGERIAN, Jaafar Jaafar, over alleged bribe videos of the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, published by the newspaper.

DAILY NIGERIAN had in October published videos showing Mr Ganduje allegedly receiving bribe in dollars from a contractor.

In November 2018, Mr Ganduje filed a N3billion suit against DAILY NIGERIAN and its publisher at a Kano High Court, seeking to declare that “the act of publishing and circulating libellous statements, false and doctored video clips attacking and impugning the character and integrity” of the governor amounts to defamation of character.

Despite the subsisting case at the state High Court, a lawyer claiming loyalty to the governor, Dalhatu Shehu, filed another suit at the Upper Shariah Court last week.

The plaintiff, who was earlier granted order for a substituted service without any attempt to serve the accused, said Mr Jaafar would be required by the court to swear to an oath, holding the Holy Qur’an on January 29.

When the case came up on Tuesday, the judge, Muhammad Kademi, dismissed the case on the premise that the plaintiff had decided to withdraw the case.

Counsel to Mr Jaafar, Audu Bulama-Bukarti, therefore applied for the process to be made available to him.

The court therefore granted Mr Bulama-Bukarti’s application. Daily Nigerian reports.
