Ganduje brings succour to herders

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State urged herders to cooperate with the state government in order to boost healthier livestock production in the state.

The governor made the observation Saturday during the formal launch of the statewide mass cattle and small ruminants vaccination held at Kadawa in Garun Mallam Local Government, saying the state government has reeled out measures to transform the practice from socio-cultural to socio-economic development.

He said that his administration has employed 220 Community Animal Health Workers to work in guiding pastoralists in their activities to boost the sector.

Governor Ganduje stated, “Last year we have succeeded in vaccinating 703 Cattles and 664 ships and goats which is about 80 percent of the target and we did not record any outbreak in the state which give the pastoralists an opportunity to gain much profit.”

Governor Ganduje added that his administration aims at vaccinating one million cattle this year, saying that the vaccination exercise is free of charge across the state.

Speaking, the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who doubles as the state Commissioner of Agriculture, commended the administration for its readiness to assist herdsmen as well as transform pastoral activities in the state.
