Agricultural Experts at a forum in Ibadan have adviced the federal government to adopt the zero grazing policy which was submitted as a better alternative needed to end the herdsmen versus farmers crisis in Nigeria. The experts observed debilitating faults inherent in the current trend of nomadic cattle rearing in the country. The call to end  nomadic farming in Nigeria as it infringed on Property rights of citizens as well as the priviledges to privacy was primarily at the peak of Nigeria's preference list as reported insurgencies and killing had surged particularly after the elections.  Amidst the observation that zero grazing will be a better alternative to the current practice, the experts noted that an adoption of the no grazing approach will put an end to the farmers-herdsmen crisis in the country. The experts made the suggestion during a week-long forum held at the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) in Ibadan. In session, the experts also implied that nomadic farming limits the farmers ability to properly feed the cattles while mornitoring the nutrient intake of the cattles. A dairy specialist, Atinuke Akinyemi, while addressing the participants said if zero-grazing is adopted, it will improve the income of the farmers and boost the nutritive value of the dairy products.

“All the violence we are experiencing in Nigeria as a result of grazing could be eliminated with zero grazing and if the herders and the farmers are properly trained. The art of confining the cattle and providing nutritious pasture for them all year round is what we are training the herders to do. We work with the farmers because it is easier to get results when we explain to them in local languages. We have had enough of the science in the classrooms. Enough of the theories in the universities, we are here to ensure the training percolate to all,” Akinyemi told journalists at the end of the training.

While the Netherlands Ambassador to Nigeria represented by his deputy, Michael Deelen commended the giant strides of the Nigerian government towards boosting and protecting its agricultural sector, He further advised that the federal government also increase support for farmers, listen to other pleas of the citizen as it relates to protection of farmland, lives and properties. Participants at the event called on the government to the give attention to dairy farming by providing enablers to encourage farmers to embrace the new trend of ranching without moving the cattle from one location to another.
