A group of Northern Christians under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Christian Youth for Buhari/Osibanjo 2019, has endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for reelection in 2019 presidential election.

The group made the position at its inaugural meeting held at Ronicon Hotel, Jos on Thursday evening as reported by  Daily Nigerian.

The national coordinator of the coalition, Christopher Jalo, said the Christian youth in the 19 states of the North and Abuja saw the need to come up with the coalition in view of the leadership qualities of Mr Buhari and his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo.

He said they previously elected former President Goodluck Jonathan, who had appointed a Christian from the South East as Secretary to the Government of the Federation and neglected Northern Christians.

“We are making a paradigm shift. Buhari gave us SGF, although most of the Christians in the North did not vote for him in the 2015 elections. He gave us the former SGF and now Mustapha Boss, another SGF, a Christian,” he said.

According to Mr Jalo, the Christian youths are not neglected by the SGF, adding that they are being carried along in the affairs of Nigeria.

“For us to have sense of belonging, we must be part of the process of electing the government. We will do our best by the grace of God to ensure that Buhari/Osibanjo are re-elected in 2019,” he stated.

Mr Jalo stressed that the coalition has the backing of the Northern leadership of the Youth Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, led by Evagalist Musa Misal.

In his goodwill message, the Adamawa State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Wafari Theman, tasked the Christian youths to join political parties.

“Christians should not only have the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), but must also belong to a political party because political party is a platform that makes one to be what he wants to be in politics,” he said.

The group therefore appointed a 12-man national executive committee, 19 state coordinators and Abuja, as well as zonal advisers, such as Gabriel Dogo, James Barry and Johnson Pwadar.
