President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the 2019 presidential election with 15,191,847 votes, giving him another term of four years.

His main challenger and the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar scored 11,262,978 votes in the polls which had 71 other candidates on the ballot.

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Mahmood Yakubu, this morning, declared President Buhari as the winner of the election having scored the highest number of votes.

Yakubu, who was the national returning officer for the presidential election, put the number of valid votes at 29, 364, 209 as reported by Daily Trust.

He said Buhari and his running mate Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be issued certificate of return today at 2pm at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.

An agent of the PDP Osita Chidoka had earlier called for suspension of the process, pending the consideration of the party’s petition. The chairman however proceeded saying all the issues raised will be responded to at the apprpriate time.

Buhari won a total of 19 states, while Atiku emerged victorious in 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The states won by Buhari are: Ekiti, Osun, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, Gombe, Yobe, Niger, Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Lagos, Ogun, Kano, Katsina, Borno, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara.

On the other hand, Atiku won Ondo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Oyo      , Adamawa, Edo, Benue, Imo, Plateau, Taraba, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and the FCT.

Details of the second day of collation

Results from Niger State were the first to be submitted yesterday by the collation officer, Prof. Angela Freeman Mary. APC won with 612,371 votes to beat PDP’s 218, 052 votes. The state has a total of 2,375,568 registered voters, but only 911,964 were accredited for the polls.

The Jigawa State Collation Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, Prof. Abdullahi Abdul Zuru said President Buhari scored 794,738 against Atiku’s 289,895 votes.

He said Jigawa with 27 LGAs has 2, 104,889 registered voters, out of which 1,171,801 were accredited.

The Kaduna State Collation Officer, Prof. Bello Shehu Bala, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Birnin Kebbi, said Buhari scored 993,445 votes as against PDP’s 640, 612 votes.

Kaduna has a total of 3,861,033 registered voters but only 1,757,868 were accredited.

Atiku fought back in Anambra state with 524,738 votes as against APC 33,298, according to the Collation Officer

Prof F. Ogbonaya. Anambra has a total of 2, 389, 332 registered voters, out of which 675,273 were accredited.

In Oyo State, the returning officer, Prof: S. Abdulkareem said PDP scored 366,690 as against 365,229 for APC. The state has a total of 2,796,542 registered voters, but only 905,007 were accredited.

Adamawa also went the way of PDP candidate who happens to be from that state. He won with 410,266 votes against Buhari’s 378,078 votes, according to the returning officer Prof. Andrew Haruna. The state has a total of 1,959,322 registered voters, but only 874,920 were accredited.

Bauchi went to the APC with 798,428 while PDP scored 209,313. The returning officer, Prof. A.M Gani said the state has a total of 2,453,512 registered voters. 1,075,330 were accredited.

In Lagos, the returning officer Prof.  F.K Salako said APC won with 580,825 against PDP’s 448,015. He said the state has a total of 6,313,507 registered voters, but 1,196,490 voters were accredited.

APC also won in Ogun State by polling 281,762 votes as against PDP’s 194, 655, according to the returning officer Prof A.A. Joseph. The registered number of voters for Ogun State is 2,336,887 while 613,399 were accredited.

Despite being the home state of the APC national Chairman Edo State was won by the PDP with 275, 691 votes. APC came second with 267,842 votes. The state has 2,150,127 registered voters, out of which 604,915 were accredited. The returning officer is Prof Ndawayale.

Benue State went to PDP which polled 356,817 to defeat APC with 347,668 votes. Benue has 2, 391,276 registered voters and 786,069 accredited voters.

Imo State was won by the PDP with 334,923 votes as against APC’s 140,463 votes. There are 2,037,569 registered voters while 585,741 were accredited to vote, according to the returning officer Prof. B.C. Ozunda.

Plateau State also gave PDP 548,665 votes while APC scored 468,555. The returning officer Prof. A.K. Richard put the number of registered voters at 2,423,381 and accredited voters at 1,074,042.

Kano went to Buhari who scored 1,464,768 against Atiku’s 392,593 votes. The returning officer Prof. M. Garuba said Kano has a total of 5,381,581 registered voters while 2,006,410 were accredited.

Katsina, where President Buhari hails from, gave APC 1,232,133 votes against Atiku’s 308,056.

The state has a total of 3,219,422 registered voters while 1,628,865 were accredited for the election. The returning officer is the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutse Fatima Batul Mukhtar.

Taraba was won by PDP with 374,743 votes as against APC’s 326 996 votes. The total registered vote is 1,777,105 while the accredited voters are 756 111. The returning officer is Prof. Shehu Adamu.

Cross River with registered voters of 1,512,915 and 461,033 accredited voters went to PDP, which scored 295,737 votes as against APC’s 117,302 votes. The returning officer is Prof. A.O. Ibhadode.

Akwa Ibom State, with a total of 2,119,727 voters and 695,677 accredited voters, was won by the PDP with 395,832 to beat APC’s 175,429. The collation officer is Prof Osaze Orumwense, VC, University of Benin.

Borno State was won by APC with a score of 836,496 votes as against PDP’s 71,788. The returning officer Prof. S.A Ibrahim put the number of registered voters in the state at 2,319,434, out of which 987,290 were accredited.

In Delta State, PDP scored 594,068 votes while APC had 221,292. The returning officer Prof. S.A. Jaja put the number of registered voters in the state at 2,719,313 and accredited voters at 891,647.

Bayelsa State was also won by the PDP with 197,933 votes to APC’s 118,821 votes. The returning officer Prof. Z.I. Akpagu put the number of registered voters in the state at 923,182 while 344,237 were accredited for the elections.

Sokoto State was won by the APC with 490,333 to beat PDP which had 361,604 votes. The retuning officer Prof. M. Bello put number of registered voters at 1,895,266 and accredited voters at 950,107.

APC won Kebbi State with 581,552 votes as against 154, 282 for PDP. The returning officer Prof. A.H. Bichi said the state has 1,802,697 registered voters and 835,238 accredited voters.

Zamfara State went to APC with 438,682 votes against PDP’s 125,423 votes. The returning officer Prof. K. Bala put the number of registered voters at 1,717,128 and accredited voters at 616,168.

Rivers State was won by the PDP with 473, 971 as against APC’s 159,710. The returning officer Prof. E. Essien put the total registered votes for the state at 3,215, 273 while 678,167 were accredited to vote in the election.

Daily Trust reports that results from Ekiti, Osun, Nasarawa, FCT, Gombe, Kogi, Abia, Yobe, Ondo, Kwara, Enugu and Ebonyi were announced on Monday, the first day of collation.
