The Managing Director, Kano Road and Traffic Agency, KAROTA, Baffa Babba Dan-Agundi has alleged that some gunmen had perfected plans to attack his personnel and agency’s headquarters.
PRIME TIME NEWS reports that the KAROTA personnel were not seen at their duty posts on Sunday, situation that created insinuation that the agency had fallen out with Police, that is why they abandoned the Kano roads for fear of arrest.
But, in an audio clip obtained by this newspaper on Monday, Mr Dan-Agundi alleged that the agency had received an intelligence report that some gunmen had planned to attack the KAROTA’s headquarters and its personnel on Sunday, adding that, that is why he was advised to direct his men to desert the Kano roads.
The MD stated that the state’s Police Commissioner had already deployed his men to secure the agency’s headquarters and provided traffic control across the Kano metropolis.
Mr Dan-Agundi further disclosed that the Commander, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense, NSCDC had promised to deploy his armed personnel to the headquarters in a bid to provide maximum security.
“This happened as a result of a harmonious working relationship between KAROTA and its sister agencies,” he said.
Similarly, in a statement by Nabilusi Kofar-Na’isa, Public Relation Officer of the KAROTA on Monday, the MD debunked the speculation that his officers abandoned their duty posts on Sunday as a result of misunderstanding with Police in the state.
He was quoted as saying, “contrary to insinuations that our personnel abandoned their duty posts as a result of a misunderstanding with the police, the personnel of the agency were asked to stay away from work as a result of intelligent reports that some gunmen have planned to attack them.”
The MD also confirmed that one of his personnel fought with a civilian who sustained a fracture on his leg during the fight.
He stated that the officer had already been arrested by the Police while the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.
While commending the Police for taking a the decisive action on the KAROTA’s officer, the MD stress that the agency enjoys good working relationship with other security agencies in the state.
