Unlike Kannywood, Kadawood which is still largely unknown across Nigeria, is structured to embrace all Nigerian languages. Kadawood as a film industry was registered a year ago in Kaduna under the chairmanship of Nuraddeen M. Usman popularly known as Nura MC, Chief Executive Officer of White Bird Movies. From inception it has produced some movies in the state, including ‘Matsalar Kauna,’ ‘Zafin Kishi,’ ‘Gidan Zango’ and many more.

MC emphasised that Kadawood was not initiated to rival Kannywood. “In as much as Kadawood remains, we are not rivals with Kannywood. We just want to develop our own platform, make good movies and entertain people, that is all. It is a matter of time, very soon Kadawood will be heard all over,” he said, and added that Hausa films actually started from Kaduna. He explained that Kannywood was initiated basically because Kaduna is the center of the North and with diverse ethnic groups and religions.

“We decided to come together and bring development, peace and harmony to the state. Kadawood has existed for a very long time, but lack of will from Kaduna entertainers has affected its development. We are just starting,” he said as reported by Daily Trust.

MC pointed out that Kaduna State has talented producers and directors who lacked the chance to showcase what they have to offer until now.

“We are presently anticipating the building of three standard cinemas here in Kaduna by the state governor. We will show movies from other parts of the country as long as they are good. That is the difference. Our focus is to make movies of international standard. So, we are competing with Hollywood, not Kannywood,” he said. “It is now time to take Kadawood to the next level. I emphasize, we are not out to compete with Kannywood. We just created our own platform since we have the right, and we are very proud of it.”

MC appreciated actors such as Ali Nuhu, Adam A. Zango, Ishaq Sidi Ishaq and many others whom he described as staunch supporters. Although relatively unknown, Kadawood is an independent film industry in Kaduna State. Kannywood is on the other hand largely a Kano State affair although its actors cut across the North.

Recently, in an interview with Daily Trust, Mustapha Naburaska said he will no longer partake in any movie set in Kano State, but will explore other states. Will Kadawood be an option? Earlier, Daily Trust had reported improving Kadawood as one of the major events that will shape the Hausa film industry in 2020.
