A number of Almajiri school pupils in Arkilla area of Sokoto metropolis have confessed that their teacher, Murtala Mode, had serially raped them.

The pupils, aged between four and 15, also said the teacher also collects money from some external homosexual clients and force the children to submit themselves to sexual acts.

Although Mr Mode only admitted to having carnal knowledge of only three minors in the school, six of the pupils said he had forceful sexual intercourse with them

The suspect made the admission in his statement, saying God destined the act to happen.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Kaoje, said on May 22, a lawyer with the National Human Right Commission, Hamza Liman, reported the suspect to Arkilla Divisional Police Headquarters, from where the matter was transferred to the state police command.

The police commissioner said the pupils were mostly from the neighbouring Zamfara state, adding that the suspect had turned them into sex slaves before the human rights group’s intervention.

He urged parents to desist from taking their wards to Almajiri schools outside their areas.

DAILY NIGERIAN leant that the school will be closed as police starts efforts to reunited the pupils with their parents.

The six children are now under the custody of Save The Child Initiative Sokoto, while Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria, MULAN, Sokoto branch provides food for them.
