Supreme Court Affirms Death Sentence for Maryam Sanda

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the death sentence handed to Maryam Sanda for the 2017 killing of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

A five-member panel dismissed her appeal and ruled that the Federal Government acted unconstitutionally when it attempted to commute her sentence while the case was still pending.

The judgment restores the original conviction delivered by an FCT High Court and later affirmed by the Court of Appeal, bringing the long-running case to a definitive close.
