The federal government has approved a groundbreaking N95 billion for the construction of irrigation canals across Kano South Senatorial District, a project that promises to reactivate the region’s vast agricultural potential.

The initiative focuses on utilizing three critical dams in the area: 1. Tiga Dam 2. Karaye Dam 3. Kafin-Chiri DamThe project, described as a major milestone in boosting food security and sustainable water accessibility, will enable year-round farming and improve agricultural productivity for thousands of farmers in the region.

Building on these efforts, 100 boreholes have already been drilled, and 100 irrigation machines have been distributed to farmers in Ajingi Local Government to kick-start these projects.

“In the coming months, we will deliver 500 additional boreholes and 500 farming irrigation machines to farmers across the senatorial district,” said Senator Suleiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, OFR, Ph.D.

“This initiative is designed to empower our farmers, enhance irrigation systems, and ensure productivity during both wet and dry seasons.”

Senator Sumaila emphasized that these projects align with a broader vision of agricultural modernization and rural development, which will create opportunities for economic growth, job creation, and improved livelihoods for the people of Kano South.

He expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support and leadership in enabling these transformative projects.
