A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has issued a perpetual injunction retaining the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP headquarters from removing the party chairman in Kano, Shehu Sagagi, from office under the end of his tenure in December 2024.

Mr Sagagi-led state executives were elected on December 14, 2020 alongside other executives in the 44 local government areas of Kano State, and their four-year tenure will end on December 13, 2024.

Delivering judgement on Wednesday, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, said the National Working Committee, NWC or any other organ of the party lacks power to dissolve state executives duly elected through congress.

He therefore issued a perpetual injunction restraining the party from dissolving the state and local governments excos until the end of their tenure, Daily Nigerian reports.

Recall that the court had on April 28 reinstated Mr Sagagi-led state and 44 local governments’ executives of party after the NWC sacked them.

Mr Sagagi is allegedly loyal to a former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The alleged loyalty of Mr Sagagi to the NNPP supremo has torn the party apart in Kano, such that the party has no candidates for Kano North and Kano South Senatorial Districts as well as a number of state and federal legislative seats.
