A group, Kano Integrity Forum has expressed support for the newly created emirates in Kano state, saying the move would unlock economic potentials and spread even development in the state.

Kano Focus recalls that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had enacted the Kano Emirate Council Law, 2019 which created four emirates in Bichi, Rano, Karaye and Gaya local government areas of the state.

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday at the NUJ press centre in Kano, chairman of the forum, Professor Abdu Salihi, described as self-serving, those who are opposing the new emirates law.

“Laws are enacted by the popular democratically elected representatives of the people. Moreover, it is the principle concern of every citizen to preserve history in a manner that allows overwhelming development across the state.

“Importantly there are many young people with overwhelming desire to actualize their potentials, but who have not had the opportunity to do so largely because the society too conservative and centralized,” he said.

“The recent creation of new emirate councils in the state will serve the purpose of ensuring balanced development of the state, particularly in terms of establishing more specialized health institutions, post-secondary institutions, agricultural development, and uphold the cultural and traditional heritage,” he added.

Mr Salihi noted that the advantages of the creating additional emirates council surpass the disadvantages considering the creation of unlimited job opportunities, establishing higher institutions of learning and transforming villages to cities.
