The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has refuted claims circulating online that it failed to act over the alleged disappearance of Cadet Stephen Kubama Gani.

In a statement, the Academy said Gani, a member of the 76 Regular Course, reported for training on August 26, 2024, but absented himself without permission on April 28, 2025. His parents were notified three days later, and he was struck off strength after seven days in line with NDA regulations.

The NDA added that after his parents later confirmed his whereabouts remained unknown, fresh investigations were launched and are ongoing.

The Academy urged the public to disregard claims of inaction, stressing that it takes cadet welfare seriously and maintains strict accountability measures.
