Kano state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has assured civil servants that they will be paid arrears of the new minimum wage whenever it comes into effect.

Kano Focus recalls that Mr Ganduje has offered to pay N30,600 as minimum wage in the state.

The Kano State Head of Service, Kabiru Shehu gave the assurance on behalf of Mr Ganduje in an interview with journalists on Monday.

“We have noted that the Federal Government directed the ministry of finance to pay arrears from April.

“This we have noted and we also are going to do same.

“We have taken the advice and by God’s grace when we implement our own minimum wage we will consider the payment of arrears as well but there is difference in finances between the federal and the state government and therefore whatever we do, we will do in accordance with the financial situation of our state.” He said, Kano Focus reports.

He added that the government is yet to start paying the new salary scale due to ongoing negotiations with labor unions regarding the consequential increment for workers on grade levels 7-17.
