About fifteen members of Peoples Democratic Party and Kwankwasiyya Movement were seriously injured on Monday as a result of sporadic attacks by suspected thugs.
A statement issued by the Spokesperson to PDP Governorship Candidate, Kano in the 2019 general elections Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Monday and sent to Solacebase accused the state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of masterminding the attack.
The statement said supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement were part of the entourage of the Senator on their way back from Kwankwaso village in Madobi Local Government area where their leader and former Kano State Governor Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso inaugurated a private College of Nursing and Midwifery (NAFCONM) to mark his 63rd birthday.
According to the statement,’’ hundreds of political thugs were gathered by officials of Kano State Government at the Sharada/Sabon Titin Panshekara underpass bridge with the aim of disrupting the convoy of the opposition PDP Kwankwasiyya around 1.30pm on Monday.
It added that the vehicles of notable PDP leaders destroyed are Air Commodore Zakari Sani, Dr. Danyaro Ali Yakasai, a former Corp Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and many others. They also snatched two vehicles and a motorcycle, brown Honda Civic (Wagon) with registration number XA521KUR and dark blue Golf Wagon belonging to Mukhtar Isa of Sharada, Salihu Kabir Faskari and Aminu Lawal Abdullahi of Zangon Dakata respectively.
The statement accused the Police of complicity noting that immediately they got wind of the attack, the leadership of Kwankwasiyya got in touch with the security agencies but they did nothing to forestall the incident.
However, several calls to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje Media Aide, Abba Anwar by Solacebase were not attended to.
Meanwhile, the Kano Police Command Spokesman DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa denied knowledge of the attack.
‘’Honestly, we are not aware of the attack. Even immediately I received calls from your colleagues on the said attack, we sent out our men from the headquarters and contacted the DPO of the area but they did not see any attack, ‘’said Kiyawa
The statement, therefore, calls on the President to as a matter of responsibility take urgent action to curtail this ugly trend that portrays serious danger for our democracy.
