A former governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau, on Wednesday, mocked the Senator representing Kano Central in the National Assembly, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, describing him as an absentee senator.

Mr Shekarau, who is running to replace Mr Kwankwaso at the Senate, stated this during a media parley at his residence in Kano, shortly after rounding off his campaign rallies.

the former governor wished that the senatorial contest was between him and Mr Kwankwaso, declaring that defeating the PDP senatorial candidate, Aliyu Madakin-Gini, was no big deal to him.

According to him, Mr Madakin-Gini is Mr Kwankwaso’s political stooge who could not make any impact in the election.

He said: “To the best of my knowledge, Kwankwaso was an absentee Senator. For three and half years he had not set his foot on Kano soil. I say this with a heavy heart because I would have loved not to say it but the facts are there.

“There is no record anywhere that within the three and half years that he had ever come as a senator to consult members of his constituency, in whatever form.

“So, I think there is nothing on ground to even compete with, honestly. We are not bothered by his antecedents. It is left to the electorate to find out whether the former Senator has done anything.

“The current senatorial candidate in PDP is his disciple, and I wonder what he has to sell to the people.

“So, as for Kwankwaso, I would have wished I contest again him for the Senate,” he stated.
