According to the governor, the directorate, when established, will handle the activities of all development partners operating in the state.

However, the governor appreciated all development partners operating in the state especially DFID for their timely supports to the state government’s commitment to improve various sectors of the economy.

Ganduje: “Kano State Government is ever ready to collaborate with all the development partners willing support the state government especially DFID.

“Our government will soon establish a directorate to regulate the activities of development partners in Kano to ensure efficient implementation of all the proposed programmes.” Triumph reports.

The governor, however, added that his adminstration has initiated approaches to ensure improved education and increased health care service delivery as well as self-reliance especially among youth and women.

Education trust fund, health Contributory scheme, health trust fund as well as regulatory body for private healthcare facilities across the state have been established for the sustainability of the programmes, Ganduje added.

First and foremost, Ganduje maintained, is the declaration of free and compulsory education in the state, with a view to making the population an asset rather than liability.

Speaking, the Regional Coordinator, DFID, Nafisa Ado, said that the programme will spend £300m on human dvelopment projects bordering education, health care, job creation and agriculture.

According to her, the representative of DFID led by her where at the chamber to brief the members of the council on DFID’s programmes as a prelude to a strategic meeting with the governor.

She added that the programme centered around human development including education health, agriculture and job creation.

The meeting between the governor and DFID will focus on the government state’s priorities.

Part of the challenges DFID faces, according to her, was counter funding and availability of data.

The intention of the programmes is to make Kano State economically buoyant state, especially as its the state with the highest population in the country.

Ado said: “The strategic meeting between DFID representatives and the governor will explore the sate government priorities. Now it’s not business as usual. We must know what the government priotizes first then we cash in on the programme.

“We have identified some areas like education, health care, job creation and agriculture. Kano State is the populous state in the federation. One can imagine the challenges education comes up with.

“At this juncture we must acknowledge the giant strides the Ganduje adminstration has taken in especially education and health care delivery, as well as job creation. We urge the state government to step up efforts.”
