The Kano state government in collaboration with the leadership of major markets in Kano have concluded arrangements to host Ramadan trade fair to crash prices of essential commodities.

The Chairman, Kano Singer Market Development Association, SIMDA, Junaidu Muhammad Zakari, told Reporters in Kano that the three weeks fair would attract merchants from Singer, Dawanau, Kanti Kwari, Yan Lemu, Yankaba, and Sabon Gari markets.

Muhammad Zakari explained that the initiative is expected to make essential commodities more affordable for residents during the holy month.

He said “By collaborating with major markets, the state government aims to create a platform that will not only benefit consumers but also support local businesses and traders.”

The Chairman stressed that the Kano state government’s decision to partner with major markets for the trade fair demonstrates its commitment to supporting the local economy and ensuring that residents have access to affordable essential commodities during Ramadan.

He disclosed that the state government through the Ministry of Trade and commerce has expressed its commitment to provide necessary logistics to ensure the success of the fair.

The Chairman said that the trade fair would kick off a week to Ramadan fasting, pointing out it would run for 20 days.

Zakaria who spoke on other sundry issues revealed that while prices of other commodities are crashing, that of sugar has remained high, as he urged Dangote, and BUA to crash the prices as Ramadan season approaches.

“We are not happy with the price situation on sugar. We see no justification for the price of sugar to keep being high.

“This is the commodity that is produced locally by Dangote and BUA. The exchange rate is also stabilizing as the rate of dollar to Naira has relatively come down.

“We therefore urge the producers of this essential commodity to crash the price for the benefits of consumers, especially as the Ramadan season is fast approaching,” he said.
