A 36-year-old lecturer, Ali Shehu, attached to the Kano State School of Technology, has been remanded in prison custody over allegations of sexually harassing a female student and breach of trust.

Kano Focus reports that Mr Shehu was arraigned at Chief Magistrate Court 18 sitting at Zungeru road in Kano, on a 2-count charge of breach of official trust and attempt to commit an offence–contrary to sections 95 and 98 of the Penal Code.

Badamasi Gawuna, the police prosecutor told the Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Idris, that the suspect was arrested following a sting operation conducted by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

Mr Gawuna said Mr Shehu was alleged to have committed the offence on August 19 in Kano.

He said on the said date at about 11 am, the accused allegedly took one of his female students (name withheld) to Ummi Plaza in Kano, to help him in marking scrips of final semester exams.

“In the process, the accused admitted to touching the said victim’s private part,’’ the prosecutor said.

When asked by the court, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Idris ordered Mr Shehu to be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to 15 October 2019 for continuation.
