Kano State Commissioner of Information, Mohammed Garba, has said that the state government will start prosecuting anyone caught making slanderous comments against Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on radio stations.
Garba also said that several people are misusing the opportunity of freedom of speech to make slanderous comments against the state governor.
“We are currently discussing with Commissioner of Justice to prosecute whoever abused the governor on radio. We are tired of this and we will no longer tolerate it,” said Garba as reported by Sahelian Times.
However, Garba did not specifically reveal the kind of slanderous comments the government will be prosecuting.
The opposition party and public affairs analysts see this government’s decision as a plot to deny people their freedom of expression as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution.
