Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad Umar, Kano state commissioner for women affairs and social development has vowed to end the menace of drug abuse, child abuse and street hawking in the state.

Dr Zahra’u revealed this in a statement signed by Hadiza Mustapha Namadi, Public Relations Officer of the ministry.

The commissioner made the remarks when she reported to work on Wednesday–a day after she was inaugurated  by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje alongside 19 other cabinet members.

She identified human development as one of the cardinal objectives of the Ganduje administration, adding that her ministry would be “one of the best in the country, with the support of dedicated staff members.” Kano Focus reports.

Earlier speaking, the permanent Secretary of the ministry Auwalu Umar Sanda, who welcomed the commissioner, pledged to give her “maximum co-operation”.

Mr Sanda explained that the ministry is in charge of social homes in the state especially the Nassarawa children’s home, Remand home, VVF hostel Kwalli, Torrey home among others.
