Kano Gov. Inaugurate committee to investigate his commissioner involvement in bailing drug baron

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of the State Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi in the controversial bail process of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu.

The governor’s directive comes in response to widespread public outcry and media reports suggesting that the commissioner’s name appeared in official documents that facilitated the release of the high-profile suspect.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa the state government expressed deep concern over the alleged misconduct and announced the formation of a high-powered investigative committee to probe the matter.

According to the statement, the Governor has appointed Barrister Aminu Hussain, Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters, to chair the investigative panel.

The committee is tasked with unraveling the truth behind the allegations, identifying any breaches of public trust, and recommending swift and appropriate actions.

“Governor Abba Yusuf has zero tolerance for drug-related crimes and any form of official misconduct. This investigation will be thorough, impartial, and decisive,” the statement read.

Committee Members Named The investigative committee consists of seven distinguished individuals drawn from legal, civil society, and military backgrounds to ensure credibility and balance.

The committee has been given an immediate mandate to begin its inquiry and present its findings to the governor for further action. No timeline was officially disclosed, but insiders say the governor expects a report within the coming weeks.

The controversy began earlier this week when documents surfaced online alleging that the name of Transport Commissioner Ibrahim Namadi appeared in a court affidavit related to the bail of Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu a suspected drug baron reportedly under investigation by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Dan Wawu is believed to be a key figure in a transnational drug network operating in Northern Nigeria.

His release from custody under questionable circumstances triggered public anger, with civil society groups, youth advocates, and anti-drug campaigners demanding accountability.
