Leaders of the Igbo community in Kano state have condemned the abduction of nine Muslim children in the state by a gang of six Igbo kidnappers, who were arrested by the police.

Kano Focus reports that the Kano Police Command had rescued nine missing children and paraded six Igbo persons who have confessed to abducting native Muslim children and selling them in Onitsha, Anambra state.

A joint statement issued to journalists by the President of General Igbo Community Association in Kano, Chief Ebenezer Chima and Sarki Ndigbo Kano, Igwe Boniface Ibekwe demanded the prosecution of the suspects.

“We wish to condemn in strong terms the trafficking of nine (9) children of Kano origin by some unscrupulous persons from the South East.

‘’We commend the police for their proactive investigation and other security agents for their synergy that led to the recovery of the victims and further recommend for very stiff penalty for the culprits to serve as a deterrent to others who may be nursing (ambition) for such nefarious act,’’ the statement read.

The Igbo leaders also praised Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll and the good people of the state “for their understanding of the issue”.

“We call on all Igbos in Kano to be law-abiding and go about their legitimate businesses in the state,” the statement added.
