The seven-man committee constituted by the Kano State House of Assembly to investigate video clips showing Governor Abdullahi Ganduje allegedly collecting kickbacks from contractors has finally succumbed to the court order.

DAILY NIGERIAN recalls that the state’s High Court, presided over Justice Ahmed Badamasi, had on November 5 ordered the committee to stop the investigation pending its final judgement, but the committee had vowed to continue with the probe.

The order was a sequel to a suit filed by one Muhammad Zubair, National Coordinator of Lawyers for Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria, an NGO,  who argued that the Assembly has no right to investigate the matter.

However, the chairman of the committee, Baffa Dan-agundi, on Monday, made the position of the assembly known, following the court’s interpretation of the espate order that stopped the committee from continuing with the investigation.

The chairman told the court that the assembly is a law-abiding arm of government, therefore it would obey the court and suspend all forms of investigation on the case, pending the court judgement.

While adjourning the hearing on the matter to Wednesday, November 21, Mr Badamasi urged the committee to desist from inviting, questioning, interviewing, examining any person related to the issue.

According to him, the investigative committee should also stop any form of analysis on the video clips as it earlier planned to carry out to find out the authenticity of the footage.

The defense counsel, Muhammad Waziri assured the court that its client would definitely obey the court order pending the court’s ruling.
