Ganduje earmarks N15bn for construction of 2.5km flyover

Kano State government has awarded contract worth N15.28 billion for construction of 2.8 km long flyover bridge in the metropolis.

According to a statement by Aminu Yassar, the Director–General, Media and Publicity to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the bridge would be constructed from Kofar Mata to Murtala Muhammed Way in Kano metropolis.

Mr Yassar added that the contract was jointly signed by the state Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Aminu Aliyu on behalf of the state government and Lin Zhengliang, who signed for TEC Engineering limited, the company that received the contract.

He also said the signing of the contract was witnessed by Ye Congjun, representative of TEC Engineering headquarters, China.

Mr Yassar quoted the commissioner as saying, “The project was specifically conceived by the Ganduje administration for high-speed vehicular traffic, with all traffic flow and ingress/egress regulated to ensure commuter safety.”

According to him, “the project entails among other things, nine clovers – four at Kofar Mata junction four at Ado Bayero road (Singer)/Ibrahim Taiwo road and one at Kofar Mata by Sani Abacha stadium.”

“As you are aware, Flyovers have become a vital part of mega cities like Kano, as a result of rapid urban development.

“Kano is an emerging mega – city which implies that you have to constantly upgrade and provide new infrastructure like roads, flyovers and underpasses to meet the demands of the teeming population,” he pointed out.

Mr Yassar added that, “Mr Aliyu pointed out that, with the new flyover, commuters would find movement into the old Kano city faster with reduced travel times and leading to less carbon emissions from exhaust fumes in hold-ups along the ever-busy road.

“We are going to witness an innovative project that will add value to the landscape of the state capital. It will be completed within a time frame of 24 months,” the commissioner added.

On his part, Lin Zhengliang promised to complete the project within the stipulated time and according to agreed specifications as demonstrated in two projects done for the state government by the company.

He mentioned the projects as, Kofar Nassarawa flyover and the yet to be commissioned Murtala Muhammad way bridge
