Ganduje defies court order, presents staff of office to new emirs

The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Sunday commenced presentation of staff of office to the four newly appointed emirs, defying court order that restricted him from taking further action.

On Friday, a Kano High Court sitting at Ungogo, ordered the governor to maintain the status quo and take no further action.

But the governor on Saturday presented appointment letters to the new emirs, saying he was unaware of the court order.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the emirs are Aminu Ado-Bayero, Bichi; Tafida Ila, Rano; Ibrahim Abdulkadir, Gaya and; Ibrahim Abubakar ll, Karaye.

In an interview with our correspondent in Kano on Sunday, Chief Press Secretary to Mr Ganduje, Abba Anwar, confirmed that the governor had already presented staff of office to the new emir of Bichi.

Mr Anwar said the governor’s convoy was on its way to Karaye to present the staff-of-office to the new emir of the emirate.

“The governor had already presented the staff-of-office to emir of Bichi, Aminu Ado Bayero amidst jubilation. The event was colourful and remarkable.

“We are now on our way to Karaye for presentation of the staff of office to the emir,” he said.

Mr Anwar also said if time permits, the governor would proceed to either Gaya or Rano today to complete the presentation tomorrow (Monday).
