Nigerian youths who have been campaigning for a total overhaul of the Nigeria Police Force have launched an online radio, Soro Soke.

On Monday, the station was broadcasting updates on the protest and giving live reports of missing and found #EndSARS protesters . One of such missing protesters was given as Ejiro, who was reported to have been missing for over 24 hours.

The anchor asked listeners to provide information about his whereabouts. He asked security agencies to give information about him, in case he was in their custody.

The station has been playing the songs of Nigeria’s revolutionary musician, the late Fela Anikulapo. Fela, as he was popularly known, used his music to criticize bad governance, including nepotism, corruption, public fund embezzlement, etc. The song the station is playing now is: “Authority Stealing,” and laments that those in government turn out to steal more than armed robbers, although they do not admit they are armed robbers.

The station also played another popular of Fela, “Zombie,” which is a caricature of how the Nigerian police force reduces its men to mere robots bereft of reasoning. The song laments the tragic situation where “Zombie no go go, unless you tell am to go!”

The anchor announced that somebody is impersonating the group on Instagram, and stressed that the “We are not on Instagram. We have reported the account to Instagram and we hope they take it down soon,” he said.

He presented a brief update of what was happening in parts of the country. “At the moment, Benin is out,” the broadcaster said. He applauded the work being done by the protesters in the ancient city, including cooking Jollof rice on the expressway on Sunday to feed members of the group.

Soro Soke, a Yoruba sentence which translates as ‘Speak Up,’ became popular last week become a slogan of the #EndSARS protest  after protesters in Lagos State urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ‘soro soke’ whilst addressing the youths.

And, in compliance with that injunction, the governor made a trip to Abuja, carrying a fat brown envelop that contained the protesters’ demand to President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock, the seat of Power.
