The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has named Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, as the pioneer Chairman of the ECOWAS Business Council (EBC).

The appointment was announced during the 95th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers in Abuja. ECOWAS said Dangote was chosen for his extensive business experience and his role in driving investment across Africa.

The newly inaugurated Business Council is expected to strengthen private-sector participation, boost intra-regional trade and support economic integration within West Africa.
