As part of its efforts to encouraging talent among students, the Dangote Business School of Bayero University Kano has hosted the second edition of the Hult prize campus competition tagged “Case challenge on youth unemployment”.

The Hult Prize Foundation founded by Ahmad Ashkar in partnership with United Nations, is aimed at encouraging young entrepreneurs emerging from universities around the world which will be of benefit to them on and out of the campus.

The prize that was contested by 11 teams had different project ideas presented on how to create jobs for the unemployed youths.

At the end of the competition, three best teams were selected as winners.

Team Brycoal took first position and Team Bolasolv become second.

Speaking to Kano Chronicle a Daily Trust publication, the team leader of Team Brycoal, Ubaidur-Rahman Sulaiman, said the essence of the project was to create a sustainable impact on the society through innovations.

“From the beginning of this project to the end it has been very tedious and demanding, the fulfillment one gets from changing people life through your ideas is not  measurable and I hope to see our project  make it to the final level” he said.

Olumide Areo, the campus director and a volunteer said the aim of the prize was to breed the next wave of social entrepreneurs and launch enterprises that could change the world.

“I have engaged with a lot of students from my school and discovered they are talented and innovative but cannot properly harness all their unique abilities to solve challenges in their immediate environment.

“I volunteered to dedicate my time, skills, experience toward startup funding and youth entrepreneurship capacity building. Unemployment is a huge challenge to Africa and Nigeria and i am happy for being  able to provide a platform where a lot of students can contribute to the society in different ways” he said.

Also speaking at the event Dr. Adams Adeiza, a lecturer at the university, who also function as the overseer of the school startup and SME center, said the competition was a platform that allows students to showcase their ideas that would proffer solutions to positive change to the society and the country at large.
