President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the erstwhile Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, be prosecuted.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed this in Lagos yesterday when he honoured the invitation of the Christian Youths, under the aegis of the GRILL, Ikeja branch.

Babachir was sacked for allegedly awarding millions of naira contracts to a company in which he had interest, Global Vision Limited, under the Presidential Initiative on the North East; and Oke, over alleged $43.4 million operations cash found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at apartment 7B in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos as reported by Daily Trust.

Osinbajo, while fielding questions from the audience on the former SGF, said Babachi and Oke were recommended for prosecution by the three-man investigation panel he chaired.

“I think the first thing for us is that the report was acted upon; the former SGF was dismissed. Secondly, the president has directed that the SGF and former DG of NIA should be prosecuted. So, we are expecting that prosecution will take place. The next thing, of course, is that criminal allegations will be filed against them and the prosecution process will be completed”, he said.

Osinbajo also said Buhari’s administration would not share public funds to friends and families, adding that the president deserved to be re-elected because of the way he had addressed grand corruption.

Attempts to get the acting spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Tony Orilade, to comment on the Buhari’s directive were unsuccessful as he did not respond to messages sent to him on the issue yesterday.
