Four months after dethroning Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has revealed plans to amend the controversial Kano Emirates Council Law 2019.

DAILY FOCUS reports that this was revealed in a statement on Wednesday by Muhammad Garba, the state’s Commissioner for Information, following the weekly executive council meeting.

Mr Garba said the council approved the amendment of the Emirates Council Law 2019 in order to review the composition of kingmakers and the rotation of the Kano Council of Emirs.

“The council has approved the presentation of a proposal to the House of Assembly for an amendment to the state Emirates Council Law 2019 to pave way for review in the composition of kingmakers and rotation of chairmanship of the council.,” the statement said.

The commissioner added that the council had also agreed to initiate measures to transform the headquarters of the new emirates in the state into “smaller cities through the construction of road networks with a view to ensuring even development”.

“The council also requests for progress report on the execution of the 400-bed capacity hospital projects in the new emirates which are to have additional clinics such as Eye, Dental, Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) which are being upgraded to reduce pressure on health facilities in Kano.”
